When’s the last time you got a tune up for your mind and body?
You know we’re not into anything new age or spiritual around here, so what the hell do we mean by a tune up for your mind and body?
We mean literally that: get everything working more smoothly. Get out the sludge. Lubricate the machinery. That way, when your mind has a desire, your body can more easily accommodate it, and vice versa.
It’s easy to forget to get an oil change for your car every 3000 miles, isn’t it?
It’s also easy to forget to maintain your bicycle regularly, so you don’t end up walking all the way across town when it fails on you out of spite for your neglect.
It’s easy to forget to repair your roof during the summer so when winter hits, you’re not living half-outside or putting up emergency tarps in the heavy rain and snow. It’s also easy to forget to stitch up that tiny tear in your favorite jeans before it rips wide open and the pants become your favorite cutoffs.
Something fascinating here is that it’s even easier to forget to consistently maintain and tuneup your mind, body, and your awareness…
So what happens when you run your car for too long on old, sticky oil?
What happens when you don’t maintain your bike for a year or two and then ride it across town?
What happens when the winter dawns on you through the cracks in your roof?
What happens when you forget to take care of things you love and enjoy?
Your answers to those questions should give you an ample set of metaphors to understand why your life might not be flowing the way you really want it to.
When you forget to stay aware, forget to cut through your own fantasies and beliefs about life, forget to cleanse your mind of assumptions, and forget to rid your body of chronic tensions:::
-You get sick.
-You feel confused and upset, and sometimes don’t even know why.
-Things just don’t work out how you want them to.
-You feel overwhelmed with doubt, worry, guilt, and shame.
-You blame yourself for all the supposed problems of the world.
-You start to feel like a “no good shit.” (to paraphrase a Command Z client…)
-You get angry and lash out at the people in your life who are closest to you.
-You miss every opportunity that comes your way because you can’t even see it through all the haze.
-You get depressed and forget to do things you enjoy.
-You run on autopilot for days, weeks, or even months and years, without ever really knowing or getting what you want.
The cool thing about undoing yourself is that it gives your mind, body, and awareness a deep cleansing and a “tune-up.”
The problem is, most people don’t know how to know what would feel deeply satisfying in their lives on a daily basis. Many of my clients are blown away when I tell them that your deepest wants are far more important than your needs.
What does that mean? It means that what you feel inspired to do is far more crucial than all those things you’ve been programmed to believe you need to do.
There’s a simple approach to breaking free from everything that keeps you from enjoying every moment of your day, and flowing with your life exactly how you’ve always wanted to.
Either I’m completely crazy, or I’m onto something…or both. But it goes like this:
1. First, destroy your expectations, ideas, and beliefs about how things are supposed to go.
2. Explore yourself, invent, and create new things, experiences, perceptions, and cultivate awareness of what you truly desire.
3. Experiment, take action, and have adventures that take you well beyond your perceived limitations and satisfy your deepest yearnings.
4. Repeat in every area of your life that doesn’t already bring you inspiration and joy.
That’s the spirit of the Art of Not Giving a Fuck.
The Radical Undoing Workshop Series is a mind and body tune-up that will bring you deeply in touch with yourself, and give you the motivation to get what you really want in your life.
It’s like your life becomes a Choose Your Own Adventure book, where you’re the one in charge of what direction things are going, and no longer a victim of your past, your conditioning, or your confusion.
Enjoy,
-Garrett
